FAQs for Hooley
Can parking be tricky for a visit in Hooley?
Parking in Hooley, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly, so mention what’s available when you book.
How do I find out if my home in Hooley is listed?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed when you book.
How much does a drone roof survey cost in Hooley?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it’s agreed before booking.
Can you fly a drone in central London?
It depends where in central London. Restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs need NATS permission before a flight. We check each address first, and fall back on other viewpoints if we can’t fly.
What about my neighbours’ privacy?
We keep the camera on the roof we’re surveying. We only survey what the owner has asked us to. A word with next door beforehand is a good idea.
How do I book a survey in Hooley?
To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us the address and what you want to find out. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
How a drone roof survey works in Hooley
A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. Common reasons to book are slates or tiles shifted by high winds and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, across flat roofs on upper floors, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.
London’s roofs are often hard to see from the street: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That’s where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Hooley
London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Take an older house close to Church of St Margaret: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. As a London address, Hooley can be tricky for parking: let us know about parking bays, permits or a driveway when you book, as a space near the door cannot be promised. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Coulsdon Sixth Form College, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.
Hooley is about 2 miles south-west of Coulsdon, in Greater London. Wherever you are in Hooley, we can come and survey your property. Our area takes in places right across Greater London, from the larger towns to small villages. Our Crawley page covers surveys nearby.

How it works
Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. Most visits take between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. For a visit in Hooley, parking and access are the things to plan: tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space, which floor the property is on and how to get into the loft. On the day, the roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space and from the roof where it’s safe.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Before we arrive
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Jot down any questions you want answered

What affects the price in Hooley
All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:
- House, block, shop or office
- Roof area
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.
Booking your survey
We will typically ask about:
- What made you get in touch
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- Anything about access we should know
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Finding them now means less to put right. In a London terrace or conversion, a roof defect rarely stays your problem alone: failed flashings and blocked valley gutters can send water into more than one home. Finding it early keeps the work smaller.

Honest limits
Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- A structural engineer’s report
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.
Roof types and parts we check
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Fragile roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
- Large and complex roofs
DIY checks: what’s safe
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, with the most urgent items set out first.
Letting agents frequently book on a landlord’s behalf. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
