Drone roof surveys for Mugswell homes and businesses

Can I check my roof myself?

It’s useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking and it will help the survey.

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

Drone roof survey in Mugswell: what you get

Drones need reasonable weather. We do not fly in high wind or heavy rain, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we will agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast before the visit and again on site. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. If you’ve noticed flashings that have come away and moss building up on slopes and in gutters, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Mugswell as anywhere. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.

You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Questions from Mugswell

Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Mugswell?

It rarely stops a survey, but it is worth planning. Tell us what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.

How do I find out if my home in Mugswell is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Do you work in Mugswell?

Yes, we do. We carry out drone roof surveys in Mugswell, and the service is the same as everywhere else we work.

How do I book a survey in Mugswell?

The quickest way is to ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Give us the address and a few details about the roof, and we’ll take it from there. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.

When does the report arrive?

It depends on the package: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.

What’s in the report?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, and ends with what we recommend. The most urgent items are made clear.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so the freeholder or managing agent needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Photographing a roof from the air does not touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so you see the roof exactly as it is. A hidden valley or parapet gutter on a London house can hold water for weeks before anyone notices. When the stain finally shows, the damage underneath is often older than it looks.

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

How the survey works

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so the back of the roof is often seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents when booking.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Advice

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Mugswell

From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. You cannot see the back slope, the valleys or the chimney tops. Faults there can go unnoticed for years.

Typical things we are asked to look at include:

  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt

For businesses in and around places like The Belfry, big, flat commercial roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images help most.

What to check before booking

  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
  • When you’ll get the report

What’s in a roof survey

Surveys for landlords and agents in Mugswell

Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in Mugswell. For a price for a let property or a block, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.

Different roofs, different checks

Large commercial roofs

Older cement sheet roofs may contain asbestos. We flag it in the report and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor.

Chimney stacks

From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. We record what we find with photos.

Airspace, weather and Mugswell roofs

Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. Re-roofing in different materials may need permission there.

Mugswell is in London, so parking needs planning: tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when booking, as a space near the door can’t be promised. If you look after a building like Kingswood Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
