About our drone roof survey in Mid Holmwood
We carry out drone roof surveys in Mid Holmwood and across London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. We fly on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. We survey tall and steep roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and large and complex roofs, and people most frequently book us about moss building up on slopes and in gutters and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water.
Somewhere as small as Mid Holmwood, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Roof by roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. The drone sees them without touching them, so the survey does not add damage.
Large commercial roofs
Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically, so nothing is skipped.

What happens on the day
Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take between one and two hours at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Older roofs in small places like Mid Holmwood can have low, tight loft spaces, so it is useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

Advice
Questions from Mid Holmwood
Is my home in Mid Holmwood listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
Are there drone restrictions around Mid Holmwood?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
What’s in the report?
It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photographs. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.
Will I get photos?
Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so the freeholder or managing agent needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.
How long will you be at the property?
Most surveys take about one to two hours at a typical home, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. We’ll confirm the timing when booking.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.
Practical tips
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year, and whether work has done its job.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, so small faults are dealt with early.
For landlords and managing agents
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work with less disruption.
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.
Flying and imaging in Mid Holmwood
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

The streets around a church like Church of St John the Evangelist are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. Anyone responsible for a site like St John's Church of England Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Honest limits
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
