Drone Roof Survey in Moorstock
An experienced roof surveyor for drone roof surveys in Moorstock. More than 20 years and over 5,000 surveys.
- Chimney tops in poor condition

Leave it or get it looked at?
Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Finding them now means less to put right, whatever height the roof is. Outbuildings and barns around Moorstock are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

Drone roof survey in Moorstock
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. Safety comes first on every visit. If you’ve noticed ridge pieces that have lifted and flashings that have come away, we can find out what’s behind it, on chimney stacks, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs alike.
In a small place like Moorstock, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

FAQs for Moorstock
Do you cover smaller places like Moorstock?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Are there drone restrictions around Moorstock?
Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Does someone need to be in?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We’ll talk about access as you book.
How soon will I get the report?
It depends on the package: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. Reports are sent by email.
What happens after the survey?
We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Let us know your preferred days as you book.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is frequently shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.
What happens on the day
It is useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit usually takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a village or hamlet like Moorstock, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- We also look inside the loft space where it is safe.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Preparing for the visit
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Advice
Drones, thermal imaging and Moorstock roofs
Moorstock is within about 5 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Historic houses like Westenhanger Castle, about 1.6 miles south-east, show how far back building around Moorstock goes. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Moorstock is about 4 miles north-west of Hythe, in Kent. We visit Moorstock as part of our work across Kent. Moorstock is one of the towns and villages in Kent where we work for drone roof surveys. You can also see our page for Canterbury.

What we’re asked to look at in Moorstock
Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Older slates and tiles break easily, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.
Look out for signs like these:
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
If you look after a building like Sellindge Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Questions to ask before you book
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- When you’ll get the report
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- Will the report include photos?
How the survey changes by roof type
Chimney stacks
Our drone check of a chimney is visual, and it isn’t a flue or gas safety check. We’ll say if a specialist is needed.
Ridges and hips
Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. We record what we see of their condition.
Practical tips
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Make sure there’s room outside for the drone to take off
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.
Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
