- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will suggest the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.

About our drone roof survey in Mountain Street
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see inside. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there’s no safe loft access, the report says so. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and fragile roofs, and people most often book us about hidden gutters full of leaves and moss building up on slopes and in gutters.
Some older homes in villages like Mountain Street are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Flying and imaging in Mountain Street
Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
The streets around a church such as Church of St Mary are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. For any home in Mountain Street, it is the small, early fault that is cheapest to put right.

Mountain Street: your questions answered
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Mountain Street?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Is Mountain Street within the area you cover?
Yes. Mountain Street is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
How fast do I get the report?
It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.
What happens after the survey?
We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.
Are you insured?
We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
Does someone need to be in?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.
What happens on the day
It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit typically takes roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. In a small place like Mountain Street, access is typically the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
- Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Leave side gates unlocked

Advice
How the survey changes by roof type
Valleys and parapet gutters
Blocked outlets in hidden gutters cause many leaks. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.
Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from ground level. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.
Before and after the survey
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
