Drone roof survey in Mundon
Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. We will tell you if another approach would work better. If you are worried about cracked mortar along the ridge and debris building up in hidden gutters, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
In a small place like Mundon, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It is useful straight away, and a good reference for later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Mundon?
Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until water overflows inside. From above, they’re easy to see.
Look out for signs like these:
- Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
- Flashings that have come away
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
For any home in Mundon, it’s the small, early fault that is cheapest to put right.

Mundon: your questions answered
Is drone flying allowed in Mundon?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
How do I find out if my home in Mundon is listed?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
Is Mundon in your area?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, Mundon included.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but we do not provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.
What happens next?
We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we’re given access to.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you as you book.

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. We survey seven days a week, which helps when tenants work during the week.
Landlords, agents and building managers in Mundon and across Essex can book any of our surveys. To discuss a property or a block, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
What happens on the day
We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere like Mundon needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Preparing for the visit
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Check pets are kept safely away
- Leave a clear route to the loft

What a drone roof survey looks like in Mundon
Mundon lies within about 2 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Older buildings in Essex frequently have clay tiles and weatherboarding, and a good many post-war and modern estates besides. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
For an older house near a landmark such as St Mary's Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover
It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- A flight where airspace permission is refused
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.
What we check
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Large and complex roofs
Checking the roof from the ground
A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Roof by roof
Large commercial roofs
Older cement sheet roofs may contain asbestos. We flag it in the report and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor.
Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.
