Drone roof surveys for Murston homes and businesses

How a drone roof survey works in Murston

Drones need reasonable weather. We don’t fly in strong wind or heavy rain, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the day turns out unsuitable, we’ll talk about another date. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. If you’ve noticed wind damage high on the roof and cracked mortar along the ridge, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Around Murston, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Questions from Murston

Is drone flying allowed in Murston?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

How do I find out if my home in Murston is listed?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Murston?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included.

Do you work in Murston?

Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and that includes Murston.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only when it is safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. Photographs are part of every report, so you can see each point for yourself.

How fast do I get the report?

Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.

What this survey can’t tell you

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • A structural engineer’s report

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What this survey covers

  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

How the survey works

A survey visit follows a simple order: we listen to what’s been worrying you, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. It normally takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a survey in Murston, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. Tell us about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Practical tips

Small things make a difference. Some pointers:

  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit

File the report and photos with your home documents. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys.

Every so often, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Murston

Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. From the ground, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. Close-up drone photos show their condition.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Hidden gutters full of leaves
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof

If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Murston, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it’s worth knowing the roof’s condition.

Before booking anyone

  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • Whether you get a written report with photos
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see

What to expect from a roof survey

What a drone roof survey looks like in Murston

Murston lies within about 2 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

If you live in an older home near Church of All Saints, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. Take a building like Sunny Bank Primary School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

What we look for on each type of roof

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen.

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. We record what we find with photos.
