For landlords and managing agents

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed in advance. We survey seven days a week, which helps when tenants work during the week.

Drone roof survey in Platt

Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. The camera stays on your roof, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we’re there to survey. We survey fragile roofs, chimney stacks and large and complex roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are standing water on a flat roof and cracked mortar along the ridge.

In a village or hamlet like Platt, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

How we price drone roof surveys

Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Which survey package you book
  • Height and safe access

Our price is from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we can help you choose.

What to tell us when you get in touch

When you call or email, these details help:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • When you need the report by
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or send us an email when you’re ready.

Questions from Platt

Will you come out to Platt?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

Is drone flying allowed in Platt?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.

How long is the visit?

Expect it to take about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. You will then get the report by email.

What if it rains on the day?

Light rain does not usually stop a survey, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Strong wind or a downpour can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so we will agree a new date if the weather is not suitable.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Platt?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose.

What insurance do you have?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.

How the survey works

It is useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. The visit normally takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a hamlet or village like Platt, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

How to prepare

  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Keep pets in another room

Tips that help

There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:

  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit

File the report and photos with your home documents. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys.

Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, and early repairs keep water out.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Platt

Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It helps when you plan ahead. Older and listed buildings around Platt may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

Drone roof surveys in Platt: local notes

Older houses across Kent often have handmade clay or peg tiles, and many have tile-hung walls. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

If you look after a building such as Platt Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. Old Soar Manor lies about 1.9 miles south, so building around Platt goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself.

Platt is about 6 miles east of Sevenoaks, in Kent. Platt gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photographs and a written report. Our Kent coverage includes Platt. There’s also a page for Maidstone.
