Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Plummers Plain
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it is not safe. If you’ve noticed worn lead at chimneys and walls and standing water on a flat roof, we can find out what’s behind it.
Villages like Plummers Plain often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
It is not only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

Flying and imaging in Plummers Plain
We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Historic houses such as Tyes Place, about 2.9 miles east, show how far back building in the area around Plummers Plain goes. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
Take an older house close to St Mary's Church: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Newells Preparatory School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Common questions in Plummers Plain
Is drone flying allowed in Plummers Plain?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Will you come out to Plummers Plain?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.
Will I get photos?
Yes, plenty. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, so you can see what we mean.
What’s the best way to book?
To book, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
What will the report tell me?
A written report with photos, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, with the most urgent first where relevant. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We note visible signs like sagging or deflection, but we don’t carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
What you can safely check yourself
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
What this survey can’t tell you
A survey is a close look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. Its limits include:
- Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey. The full list of what we check.

What affects the price in Plummers Plain
Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- Roof area
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Which survey package you book
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
Booking your survey
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- The kind of building and roof involved
- What made you get in touch
Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. For a price or to book, call 07833 053749 or email us.
What we do, step by step
When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. After that, we look at everything we can see safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. Most surveys take an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Older roofs in small places like Plummers Plain can have low, tight loft spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it is safe.
- You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Advice
Tips that help
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
There is a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.
What we look for on each type of roof
Chimney stacks
Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. Each defect is photographed for the report.
Steep slate and tile slopes
Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. A drone avoids that, so the survey does not add damage.
