Drone Roof Survey in Pondwell
Close-up drone photographs of roofs that are hard to reach for Pondwell and the rest of the Isle of Wight. We survey seven days a week.
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
How a drone roof survey works in Pondwell
Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on, like old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. If a drone isn’t the right tool, we will say so. If you’ve noticed slipped or missing slates on a high roof and wind damage high on the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and tall and steep roofs alike.
Some older homes in villages like Pondwell are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

When you need someone else
It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Flights in strong wind or a downpour
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check

Useful tips for Pondwell property owners
Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:
- Make sure there’s room outside for the drone to take off
- Tell us the exact address as you book
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Book early if you’re near an airport
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, so small faults are dealt with early.
What happens on the day
We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Rural addresses near Pondwell can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

Different roofs, different checks
Steep slate and tile slopes
Widespread slipping on slate typically means nail fatigue. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.
Chimney stacks
The drone shows the outside of the stack, and it isn’t a flue or gas safety check. If the flue needs a specialist, we’ll tell you.
Common questions in Pondwell
How do I find out if my home in Pondwell is listed?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Is Pondwell within the area you cover?
Yes, Pondwell is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we will agree the details when you book.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
What about my neighbours’ privacy?
Privacy is taken seriously on every flight. The camera is pointed at your roof, not next door. Letting neighbours know in advance helps.
Are you insured?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
How quickly is the report sent?
That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.
Can I check my roof myself?
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book and it will help the survey.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Pondwell
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- The size of the roof
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.
Booking your survey
What helps most when you contact us:
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- The property’s address and postcode
If you are buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form when you are ready.
Flying and imaging in Pondwell
Pondwell lies within about 2 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Bembridge Airport is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight.
If you look after a building such as Nettlestone Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. For older roofs nearby, a look by drone or thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.
