Our drone roof survey service in the Isle of Wight
Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs can’t always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photographs of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly, including slopes that can’t be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. We’re often asked to look into storm damage on steep or tall roofs and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, on valleys and parapet gutters, fragile roofs and tall and steep roofs.
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey typically takes about one to two hours on an ordinary house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Local landmarks in Newport
Typical jobs here are in homes near Seaclose Park, Castle Inn and Island Innovation VI Form Campus. Nearby too are Christ The King College (0.6 miles south-west) and Nine Acres Primary School (within half a mile south). Nearby you will also find Carisbrooke Castle (1 mile south-west) and St Mary's Hospital (0.8 miles north). For a walk, there’s Briddlesford Nature Reserve and Mill Hill.
Drone roof surveys across the Isle of Wight: local notes
Across the Isle of Wight, from Newport, Ryde and Cowes outwards, plenty of roofs cannot be seen properly from the street. A drone or thermal camera adds a view you cannot get from ground level.
The South East’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around several of its airports, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any drone flight in the Isle of Wight. Flights that need permission only go ahead once it is given. Coastal towns and villages in the Isle of Wight see more salt and wind than places inland, and metal fixings and lead suffer for it. Ridges and verges facing the sea are worth checking after every big storm.
Newport: If you look after a building like Nine Acres Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Carisbrooke Castle lies about 1 mile south-west, so building around Newport goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof itself.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Finding them now means less to put right.

- Whether VAT is added on top
- Their report turnaround times
- Will the report include photos?
Honest limits
We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
Prices for drone roof surveys in the Isle of Wight
To price your survey, we check:
- Which survey package you book
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Height and safe access
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and the package you choose.
What we need to know
There is no need for technical words. It is enough to let us know:
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- Where the property is, with the postcode
You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord. Access is agreed with the tenant beforehand.
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work.
Signs you need a drone roof survey
Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.
A survey can pick up problems like:
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Wind damage high on the roof
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
The Isle of Wight questions
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
Will the drone film my neighbours?
We keep the camera on the roof we’re surveying. We only survey what the owner has asked us to. If your roof is shared, it helps to tell your neighbours about the visit.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it when booking and we will explain what’s needed.
Will I get photos?
Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We check everything that can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where it applies. Anything we can’t see is noted in the report.
Do you cover the Isle of Wight for drone roof surveys?
Yes. We cover the Isle of Wight. To book, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
