Drone roof survey in Haylands
Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. If you are worried about worn lead at chimneys and walls and ponding and splits on a high flat roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on tall and steep roofs, large and complex roofs and valleys and parapet gutters alike.
Even in a smaller place like Haylands, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

For landlords and managing agents
With a portfolio of properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To discuss a number of properties, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the addresses.
We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as householders. A report with photographs gives you a clear record of the roof, useful for planning maintenance.
How we price drone roof surveys
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- The size of the roof
- Which survey package you book
- House, block, shop or office
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.
What we need to know
When you call or email, these details help:
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
Once you know what you need, call 07833 053749 or email us. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day.
Tips from our surveys
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to talk through the photos and findings. It’s a chance to ask about anything in the report.
Keep the roof space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
Drones, thermal imaging and Haylands roofs
Haylands lies within about 2 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Thatch survives on some older Isle of Wight buildings, and the whole island is open to sea air and wind. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.
Anyone responsible for a site like Haylands Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. With Nunwell House about 2.5 miles south, the area around Haylands has a long history. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Haylands, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it’s worth knowing the roof’s condition.

FAQs for Haylands
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Haylands?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Haylands?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.
Is Haylands in your area?
Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and that includes Haylands.
Will you walk on the roof?
Not unless it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone.
What will the report tell me?
You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, finishing with recommendations. Points are put with the most urgent first where relevant.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Let us know your preferred days when booking.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
How the survey works
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Haylands is booked with the forecast in mind: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
How to prepare

Advice
How the survey changes by roof type
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roofs on tall buildings are often seen by nobody. From above, standing water, splits and tired upstands are clear.
Large commercial roofs
Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. A drone keeps everyone off them.
