What happens if roof problems are left?

It is hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. You get photos of every part we can see. You can tackle the urgent items first. Homes in smaller places like Sandown can face more weather, so a loose ridge or verge soon lets rain in. Each storm lifts it a little further, and water follows.

Prices start from £150, inc. VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. We confirm the price for the job before you book.

How a drone roof survey works in Sandown

Prices start from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photos. We survey large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and fragile roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are lifted or split lead flashings and slates or tiles shifted by high winds.

Around Sandown, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.

We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

What you can safely check yourself

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

Questions from Sandown

Do you cover smaller places like Sandown?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Sandown?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Sandown is about 1 mile from Sandown Airport, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

What will the report tell me?

Written findings with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed as you book.

What’s the best way to book?

Just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. The report includes photos of what we found.

Will you check the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

Common roof problems in Sandown

Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Older slates and tiles break easily, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.

We’re often asked to look at:

  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Lifted or split lead flashings

For an older house near a landmark such as Christ Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

What to check before booking

  • What insurance they carry
  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price
  • Will the report include photos?
  • Their track record with similar roofs

What to expect from a roof survey

How the survey changes by roof type

Chimney stacks

From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. We record what we find with photos.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. A drone avoids that, so the survey does not add damage.

For landlords and managing agents

Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client.

Landlords, agents and building managers in Sandown and across the Isle of Wight can book any of our surveys. For a price for a let property or a block, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

Drone roof surveys in Sandown: local notes

Sandown is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Sandown Airport is about 1 mile away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight.

Historic houses such as Morton Manor, about 1.5 miles north-east, show how far back building around Sandown goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Sandown means lost rooms as well as repairs, so it pays to find faults before guests do.

What we do, step by step

Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take an hour or two for most houses; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Being in a smaller place like Sandown does not change how the visit works: we look from the ground, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it is safe. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building
