How a drone roof survey works in Oakfield
We carry out drone roof surveys in Oakfield and across London and the South East, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly seven days a week. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address. If you’ve noticed loose ridge and hip tiles and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Around Oakfield, a good many roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. The parts you can’t see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from ground level.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Flying and imaging in Oakfield
Oakfield is within about 2 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. There are several hotels within about a mile and a half of Oakfield, and like offices and blocks, hotels often sit under flat roofs. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them.
The streets around a church such as St John's Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. With Nunwell House about 2.6 miles south, the area around Oakfield has a long history. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Oakfield means lost rooms as well as repairs.
Oakfield is about 6 miles south-west of Southsea, in the Isle of Wight. From houses to flats and shops in Oakfield, we can survey the roof. Across the Isle of Wight, we cover Oakfield and the places around it. Our Portsmouth page covers surveys nearby.
Surveys in PO33 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. We offer drone roof surveys to properties on Park Road, Rink Road and Hope Road and the roads around them. Oakfield is on the A3055, so it’s easy for us to get to. Being one of the Isle of Wight’s larger places, Oakfield has every kind of building, from houses and flats to offices. Remote addresses need a little more planning, so tell us where you are when you book.

What a survey costs
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- How big the roof is
- Which survey package you book
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
Booking your survey
There is no need for technical words. It’s enough to let us know:
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- What’s prompted the survey
- Anything about access we should know
Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To find a date that works for you, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address and the days you’d prefer.
What we look for on each type of roof
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Felt often lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. Photos show how the covering is wearing.
Valleys and parapet gutters
A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. It’s almost impossible to see from the ground, but it’s plain to see from the air.
Leave it or get it looked at?
A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. Around Oakfield, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls. Dealing with the cause is simple; drying out a wall is not.
A Basic Survey starts from £150, including VAT. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. You will know the exact price before booking.

What a drone roof survey does not cover
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will suggest the right survey. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers
- Large and complex roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
Tips that help
A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Our tips:
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Book early if you’re near an airport
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Check the loft can be reached
With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.
How the survey works
Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Homes around Oakfield often have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. The loft, where there is safe access, completes the picture.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
How to prepare
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or email us to find out.

Common questions in Oakfield
Is drone flying allowed in Oakfield?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Is my home in Oakfield listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
What does a roof survey cost?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys run on any day of the week. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or email us.
What if it rains on the day?
Light rain is usually fine; heavy rain and wind are different. Strong wind or heavy rain can make access unsafe and ground a drone, so we’d move the date with you.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only when it’s safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
