Landlords, agents and block managers in Calbourne
Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the survey around it.
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.
How a drone roof survey works in Calbourne
The weather decides whether a drone can fly. We don’t fly in strong wind or a downpour, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We survey fragile roofs, large and complex roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are ridge and hip pieces working loose and chimney tops in poor condition.
Older buildings in small places like Calbourne may be listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What a drone roof survey does not cover
Every survey has limits, and it is better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- A structural engineer’s report
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll recommend the right survey before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Calbourne: your questions answered
Is Calbourne within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
Are there drone restrictions around Calbourne?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Does the weather affect the survey?
Light rain does not normally stop a survey, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Strong wind or a downpour can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we will arrange another day with you.
How much is a survey?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the exact price before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
Do I need to be at home?
It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we’ll agree the details when booking.
What does the report include?
You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos. The most urgent items are made clear.
What do I do with the report?
The report comes by email, and what you do next is up to you: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.

What to let us know when you get in touch
These details help when you contact us:
- What made you get in touch
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. We’ll confirm the price before you book.
Tips from our surveys
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Make sure there’s room outside for the drone to take off
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, especially in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
Airspace, weather and Calbourne roofs
Calbourne lies within about 3 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
With Swainston Manor about 1.2 miles north-east, the area around Calbourne has a long history. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself. The streets around a church such as All Saints' Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Calbourne is about 5 miles west of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. We visit Calbourne as part of our work across the Isle of Wight. Across the Isle of Wight, we cover Calbourne. For surveys nearby, see our Southampton page.
All of PO30 is within our area for drone roof surveys. Streets in the area include Sun Hill, Elm Lane and Lynch Lane. Nearby, we also carry out drone roof surveys in Newbridge (1 mile north-west), Ningwood (2 miles north-west), Shalcombe (2 miles west), Wellow (2 miles west) and Hulverstone (3 miles south-west). We also work in nearby towns such as Newport (5 miles east), Ryde (11 miles east), Cowes (7 miles north-east), Sandown (11 miles east), Shanklin (10 miles east) and Ventnor (10 miles south-east). If you are somewhere remote, the survey takes a little more planning.
Around Calbourne
Around Calbourne, our work takes us to homes and buildings near The Sun pub and the streets around them. Well-known places in the area include Calbourne Water Mill And Rural Museum (0.6 miles west) and Carisbrooke Castle (3.8 miles east). Open spaces near Calbourne include Brighstone Down.
How it works
We look at the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. All in, the survey normally takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. Rural addresses near Calbourne can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Leave side gates unlocked

Advice
Why get it checked now?
Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It helps when you plan ahead. For older village homes like those around Calbourne, the right replacement materials are not always easy to find quickly. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can be seen safely and which survey you book.
Why us?

- Photographs and a written report every time
