Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Cross Lane
Prices start from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where it applies, is also part of our Premium Survey, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. If a drone will not help on your roof, we’ll say so. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. Typical surveys look at lead work pulling away at abutments and ponding and splits on a high flat roof, on flat roofs on upper floors, large and complex roofs and fragile roofs.
Places like Cross Lane can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

Why it is worth a survey now in Cross Lane
A drone record gives you a baseline. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It helps when you plan ahead. Blocked gutters on homes around Cross Lane overflow and soak walls, especially where trees overhang. Dealing with the cause is simple; drying out a wall is not.
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

DIY checks: what’s safe
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book and it will help the survey.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
The survey, step by step
Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes an hour or two at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Parking around Cross Lane is normally easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. Low roofs on bungalows can frequently be seen well from ground level, and the loft shows the rest, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where it applies.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
How to prepare
- Leave side gates unlocked
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Leave a clear route to the loft
How to book
We survey roofs on any day of the week. To arrange a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.

Tips that help
Small things make a difference. Some pointers:
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to talk through the photographs and findings. You can ask about anything that is not clear.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
Common roof problems in Cross Lane
Many roofs are never seen properly from the ground. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Faults there can go unnoticed for years.
Typical things we’re asked to look at include:
- Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
Carisbrooke Castle lies about 1.7 miles south-west, so building around Cross Lane goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself.
What to check before booking
- Whether the price includes VAT
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
- Their track record with similar roofs
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?

Drone roof surveys around Cross Lane
Cross Lane is within about 5 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. There are several hotels within about a mile and a half of Cross Lane. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.
For an older house near a landmark like St Paul's Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. For hotels and guest houses around Cross Lane, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it’s worth knowing the roof’s condition.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Cross Lane
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Cross Lane?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Is my home in Cross Lane listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.
What happens after the survey?
You’ll receive the report by email, and what you do next is up to you: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.
What’s the best way to book?
The quickest way is to phone 07833 053749 or email us. Let us know the address and a little about the roof. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
