About our drone roof survey in Staplers
Drones need reasonable weather. High wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the day turns out unsuitable, we’ll talk about another date or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast before the visit and again on site. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. Typical surveys look at ridge and hip pieces working loose and slates or tiles shifted by high winds, on valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and tall and steep roofs.
Even in a smaller place like Staplers, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.
We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

Flying and imaging in Staplers
Staplers lies within about 5 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Within a mile and a half or so of Staplers there are several hotels. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them.
Anyone responsible for a site like Barton Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Carisbrooke Castle, about 1.9 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Staplers. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. Take an older house close to St Paul's Church: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
Staplers is about 1 mile east of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. Wherever you are in Staplers, we can come and survey your property, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday. Across the Isle of Wight, we cover Staplers and the places around it. There is also a page for Portsmouth.
We work across PO30 for drone roof surveys. You will find streets like Pan Lane, Ash Road and Mews Lane. Nearby, we also carry out drone roof surveys in Barton (1 mile west), Cross Lane (1 mile north-west), Fairlee (1 mile north-west), Hillgrove (1 mile north-east) and Wootton (3 miles north-east). Further out, we also cover Ryde (5 miles east), Cowes (4 miles north), Sandown (6 miles south-east), Shanklin (6 miles south-east), Ventnor (8 miles south) and East Cowes (4 miles north). Harder-to-reach addresses take a little more planning, so tell us where you are when you book.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Staplers
Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the survey around it.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photos included.
DIY checks: what’s safe
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we look at the roof.
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Leave it or get it looked at?
Photographing a roof from the air does not touch it. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. Around Staplers, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls, especially where trees overhang. It’s easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Staplers questions
How do I find out if my home in Staplers is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Is Staplers within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes, plenty. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, so you can see what we mean.
Does your drone take thermal images?
The drone gives you detailed photos of the outside of the roof. If you need thermal imaging, it is part of the Premium Survey.
What does the report include?
Written findings with photographs, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
How long will you be at the property?
Expect it to take about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. That includes checking the site and the weather before take-off.
What’s the best way to book?
It’s easiest to phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Let us know the address and a little about the roof, and we’ll take it from there. We survey on weekdays and at weekends.
The survey, step by step
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. The whole visit usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a smaller place like Staplers, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. Low roofs on bungalows can frequently be seen well from the ground, and the loft shows the rest, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where it applies.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Preparing for the visit
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Tell us about parking before the day
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Tips that help
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:
- Let us know what you want to see
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to talk through the photographs and findings. It is a chance to ask about anything in the report.
Keep the roof space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Check insulation does not block the airflow.
Honest limits
It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- Flights in strong wind or a downpour
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey before booking. What a survey covers and does not.
