Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.

About our drone roof survey in Marsh Green
Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs cannot always be inspected up close. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. The photos go into a written report. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight is not possible, we explain why. Typical surveys look at lifted or split lead flashings and slipped or missing slates on a high roof, on valleys and parapet gutters, fragile roofs and tall and steep roofs.
Some older homes in villages like Marsh Green are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

Marsh Green questions
Do you cover smaller places like Marsh Green?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
How do I find out if my home in Marsh Green is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We look at everything that can safely be seen: from the ground, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we can’t see is noted in the report.
How much does a drone roof survey cost in Marsh Green?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your survey before booking. To get a price, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
How long does the visit take?
The visit usually takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. We’ll give you an idea of timing as you book.
Why get it checked now?
From ground level, you are guessing about most of a tall roof. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photos. It’s far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.

What we’re asked to look at in Marsh Green
Many roofs are never seen properly from ground level. You can’t see the back slope, the valleys or the chimney tops. Problems in those places often go unseen until they leak.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
If you look after a building like Brighstone Church of England Aided Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

How the survey works
The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Notes and photos go into the written report. The visit normally takes an hour or two at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Cottages and farmhouses around Marsh Green often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of

Advice
Different roofs, different checks
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.
Ridges and hips
Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.

Airspace, weather and Marsh Green roofs
Marsh Green is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
With Mottistone Manor about 1.5 miles north-west, the area around Marsh Green has a long history. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. If you live in an older home near St. Mary's Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

DIY checks: what’s safe
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we look at the roof.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.
