Need a drone roof survey in Parkhurst?

What we cannot see

No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs

Drone roof survey in Parkhurst

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe, like old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. If you’ve noticed standing water on a flat roof and plant growth and moss on the roof, we can find out what’s behind it.

Some older homes in villages like Parkhurst are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible.

The survey, step by step

A survey visit follows a simple order: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. It normally takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Cottages and farmhouses around Parkhurst often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we cannot see is noted.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about parking before the day
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Do you need a drone roof survey in Parkhurst?

Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Older slates and tiles break easily, and some sheet roofs are fragile. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.

Problems we come across often include:

  • Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Lifted or split lead flashings
  • Hidden gutters full of leaves

If you look after a building such as Hunnyhill Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

What to check before booking

  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • Whether you get a written report with photos
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one
  • What the survey won’t cover

What to expect from a roof survey

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • How big the roof is
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.

Booking your survey

Before you get in touch, it helps to have:

  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside

When you’re ready to go ahead, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day, weekday or weekend.

For landlords and managing agents

Landlords, agents and building managers in Parkhurst and across the Isle of Wight can book any of our surveys. For a price for a let property or a block, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too. Larger roofs take longer.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Parkhurst

Parkhurst lies within about 4 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

For hotels and guest houses around Parkhurst, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it pays to find faults before guests do. Carisbrooke Castle lies about 2.1 miles south, so building around Parkhurst goes back a long way. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

Parkhurst is about 1 mile north of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. We cover Parkhurst and the rest of the Isle of Wight. Across the Isle of Wight, we cover Parkhurst. Portsmouth is in our area too.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Parkhurst

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Parkhurst?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

How do I find out if my home in Parkhurst is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

How experienced are you?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you when booking.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

How soon will I get the report?

Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know when booking.

What happens next?

You will receive the report by email, and you decide the next step: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.

Why it is worth a survey now in Parkhurst

It’s hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. Our report shows the condition of each area. You can tackle the urgent items first. For older village homes like those around Parkhurst, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.
