Drone roof survey in Rew Street: what you get

Drone roof surveys are available in Rew Street and throughout London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. If you’re worried about vegetation in valleys and gutters and ridge and hip pieces working loose, we can find out what’s behind it, on flat roofs on upper floors, large and complex roofs and chimney stacks alike.

Somewhere as small as Rew Street, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

How the survey works

We will ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Cottages and farmhouses around Rew Street often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

When you need someone else

We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • A structural engineer’s report

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Rew Street

Will you come out to Rew Street?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Rew Street?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it as you book and we will explain what’s needed.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The conditions on the day decide whether a flight goes ahead. Strong wind and heavy rain both rule out flying. We’ll talk through the options if the day turns bad.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed when booking.

Can you fly a drone in central London?

Some areas need permission from NATS before any flight. Where we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points.

Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?

No, the drone survey is photographic. Thermal imaging is a separate check in the Premium Survey.

Why get it checked now?

Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. They show the location and extent of each defect. In a place like Rew Street, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Rew Street

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work around your tenants.

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.

Tips that help

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps
  • Make sure the loft can be reached

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.

Every so often, look in the loft space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.

Drone roof surveys in Rew Street: local notes

Rew Street is within about 2 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

Take a building like Northwood Primary School: big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. Osborne House, about 2.8 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Rew Street. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. If you live in an older home near All Saints' Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

What you can safely check yourself

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
