Drone roof survey in Gatcombe: what you get
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where it applies, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. We are frequently asked to look into standing water on a flat roof and slipped or missing slates on a high roof, on large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and flat roofs on upper floors.
Older buildings in small places like Gatcombe may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

Leave it or get it looked at?
On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. Looking from above picks up the early signs. For older village homes like those around Gatcombe, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Flying and imaging in Gatcombe
Gatcombe is within about 5 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
Historic houses such as Gatcombe House, about 0.2 miles south-east, show how far back building around Gatcombe goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Chillerton and Rookley Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Questions from Gatcombe
Is Gatcombe within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
Is my home in Gatcombe listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
How long will you be at the property?
Typically, it takes roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. Pre-flight checks of the site and the weather are part of that.
What will the report tell me?
It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, backed by photos. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely.
Does someone need to be in?
That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.
Can you fly a drone in central London?
Some areas need permission from NATS before any flight. If permission isn’t possible, we inspect by other means.

What else we do in Gatcombe
What we do, step by step
Before we start, tell us why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Around Gatcombe, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it is safe.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.
How to prepare
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear

Advice
How we price drone roof surveys
We confirm the price for your survey before booking. This is what makes a difference:
- The roof’s overall size
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.
Helping us price your survey
A little information up front helps. Please include:
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
- When you need the report by
- What’s prompted the survey
- Anything about access we should know
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form when you’re ready.
How the survey changes by roof type
Large commercial roofs
Older cement sheet roofs may contain asbestos. We do not test for it, but we flag it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.
Valleys and parapet gutters
Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. You can’t see it from the street at all, but it is plain to see from the air.
What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover
A survey is a careful look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. The main limits are:
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll recommend the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers
- Tall and steep roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks
Do you need a drone roof survey in Gatcombe?
Many roofs are never seen properly from the ground. You can’t see the back slope, the valleys or the chimney tops. Faults there can go unnoticed for years, which is why owners turn to a drone.
People usually book a survey when they’ve noticed something like this:
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
- Wind damage high on the roof
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
If you own one of the older houses in the streets near St. Olave's Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
