Afton Drone Roof Survey
Need a drone roof survey in Afton? We can help, with findings in writing and pictures to back them up. Weekday and weekend visits available.
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
Do you need a drone roof survey in Afton?
Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
Mottistone Manor, about 3.9 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Afton. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

How a drone roof survey works in Afton
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see inside. We check the loft from inside where it is safe, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there’s no safe loft access, the report says so. If you’re worried about outlets choked with leaves and silt and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Villages like Afton often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photo. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

What happens on the day
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey usually takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Cottages and farmhouses around Afton frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Before the survey
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Advice
How we price drone roof surveys
Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- Roof area
- Basic, Standard or Premium
Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the size and height of the roof, access and which survey you book.
What we need to know
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- What made you get in touch
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
When you are ready to go ahead, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day, weekday or weekend.
Tips that help
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:
- Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.
Airspace, weather and Afton roofs
Afton is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Some villages on the Isle of Wight still have thatched roofs, and the whole island is open to sea air and wind. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from ground level, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.
Take an older house close to St. Agnes' Church: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as All Saints Church of England Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
Afton is about 6 miles south of Lymington, in the Isle of Wight. From houses to flats and shops in Afton, the roof can be surveyed. Our the Isle of Wight coverage includes Afton and the places around it. We also survey roofs in Southampton.

Why act early in Afton
Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. They show the location and extent of each defect. Older cottages and farmhouses around Afton can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it’s left.
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:
- Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- A flight where airspace permission is refused

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Afton
Do you cover smaller places like Afton?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
Is my home in Afton listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Does your drone take thermal images?
The drone gives you detailed photos of the outside of the roof. If you need thermal imaging, it’s part of the Premium Survey, as a separate check.
What do I do with the report?
We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. It’s yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
Do drone rules differ in central London?
Parts of central London are restricted, including areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, and flights there need NATS permission. We check the airspace for your address and apply where needed.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The conditions on the day decide whether a flight goes ahead. Strong wind and heavy rain both rule out flying. We’ll talk through the options if the day turns bad.
Do you hold CAA registration for the drone?
Yes, we are. The CAA has issued us a Flyer ID and an Operator ID, and the drone itself is under 250g, kept within sight on every flight.
