Drone roof surveys for Easton homes and businesses

What we do, step by step

On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you need to know. After that, we look at everything we can see safely, from the ground, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where applicable. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere like Easton needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Before the survey

  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

Book a survey

If you’re buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or email us whenever suits you.

How a drone roof survey works in Easton

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We survey tall and steep roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and large and complex roofs, and people most often book us about cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and lifted or split lead flashings.

Some older homes in villages like Easton are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Easton

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out with the most urgent first where relevant, which helps with budgets and planning.

Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Let us know about it when booking and we will plan the survey around it.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Easton

Do you cover smaller places like Easton?

Yes. Easton is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Easton?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed as you book.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and details are available on request.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Easton?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before you book, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. To get a price, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Easton

Easton is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

Historic houses such as Mottistone Manor, about 4.2 miles east, show how far back building around Easton goes. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. The streets around a church like St. Agnes' Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Anyone responsible for a site like All Saints Church of England Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Easton is about 6 miles south of Lymington, in the Isle of Wight. We cover Easton and the rest of the Isle of Wight, as part of our work across London and South East England. Easton is one of the towns and villages in the Isle of Wight where we work for drone roof surveys. You can also see our page for Southampton.

Every address in PO40 is within our area for drone roof surveys, from the main roads to the quietest streets. Whether your property is on Bay Road, Camp Road and Gate Lane or a nearby road, we can help. Neighbouring places we cover for drone roof surveys include Afton (1 mile east), Afton Park (1 mile east), Freshwater (1 mile north-west), Totland (1 mile west) and Colwell (1 mile north-west). We also work in nearby towns like Newport (10 miles east), Cowes (11 miles north-east), Shanklin (15 miles east), Ventnor (14 miles east), East Cowes (12 miles north-east) and Barton (10 miles east). Harder-to-reach addresses take a little more planning, so let us know where you are as you book.

Checking the roof from the ground

It’s useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • A structural engineer’s report

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.

Why act early in Easton

Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It’s useful for planning maintenance over the years. Matching old materials, like handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.
