About our drone roof survey in Row Heath

We carry out drone roof surveys in Row Heath and across London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, call 07833 053749 or email us. We survey tall and steep roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and debris building up in hidden gutters.

Older buildings in small places like Row Heath may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What we do, step by step

We look at the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. The whole visit usually takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Rural addresses near Row Heath can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Advice

FAQs for Row Heath

Do you cover smaller places like Row Heath?

Yes. Row Heath is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

Is my home in Row Heath listed or in a conservation area?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs cannot always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where it applies let us see the rest.

Will the drone film my neighbours?

We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on neighbouring gardens or windows. We inspect only the roof you’ve asked about. If your roof is shared, it helps to tell your neighbours about the visit.

Does the drone show the underside of the roof?

No. It photographs the outside, not the inside. For the underside, we check the loft where it can be reached safely, as damp and daylight often show there first.

What if it is windy or raining on the day?

Bad weather means no flight. Wind and heavy rain are the two things that ground a small drone, so a new date is agreed with you, or look from other safe viewpoints if you’d rather.

Is your drone operator registered?

Yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We fly a sub-250g drone and follow the drone code.

How the survey changes by roof type

Ridges and hips

Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. We photograph them closely, as far as the flight allows.

What we can’t see

No survey can tell you everything, and it is better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will point you to the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

Why get it checked now?

Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. They show the location and extent of each defect. For an older or listed building in a place like Row Heath, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.

One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

What you get with us

Drones, thermal imaging and Row Heath roofs

Row Heath is within about 4 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.

If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of St James, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Thorpe Hall, about 2.5 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Row Heath. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

Row Heath is about 3 miles north-west of Clacton-on-Sea, in Essex. Bookings from Row Heath are handled just like any other: get in touch, agree the price and pick a day. Our area takes in places right across Essex, large and small. You can also see our page for Chelmsford.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Row Heath

Our packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Which survey package you book

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

What to let us know when you contact us

These details help when you contact us:

  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date

A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

When to book a survey in Row Heath

Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and some sheet roofs are fragile. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Standing water on a flat roof

Take a building like Engaines Primary School and Nursery: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
