Independent drone roof surveys in Weeley

Drone roof survey in Weeley: what you get

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it’s worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. Typical surveys look at cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and flashings that have come away, on tall and steep roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and valleys and parapet gutters.

Older buildings in small places like Weeley may be listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later.

How it works

Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a photo-illustrated written report, sent to you by email. On timing, it usually takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In a hamlet or village like Weeley, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Tell us about parking before the day
  • Leave side gates unlocked

When you need someone else

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

Flying and imaging in Weeley

Weeley lies within about 4 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Andrew, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. If you look after a building such as Weeley St Andrew's CofE Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Weeley is about 4 miles north of Clacton-on-Sea, in Essex. Weeley gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photographs and a written report. Weeley is one of the places in Essex where we work. Our Chelmsford page covers surveys nearby.

Before and after the survey

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:

  • Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Book early if you are near an airport
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.

What we’re asked to look at in Weeley

Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters

Thorpe Hall, about 2.3 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Weeley. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself.

What to check before booking

  • What happens after the report arrives
  • Are they insured for the work?

What to expect from a roof survey

How we price drone roof surveys

To price your survey, we look at:

  • Which survey package you book
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own

Every price we give includes VAT. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your survey before you book.

Getting in touch

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • The address and postcode of the property
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof

Unsure which package suits your roof? It’s easiest to ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.

Common questions in Weeley

Is drone flying allowed in Weeley?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Weeley?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

What do I do with the report?

The report comes by email, and you decide the next step: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.

When does the report arrive?

Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when you book.

What’s in the report?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photographs throughout. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely.

Will you check the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement.

What’s the best way to book?

To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and find a day that suits.

Different roofs, different checks

Steep slate and tile slopes

Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. A drone avoids that, so the survey does not add damage.

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
