Drone roof survey in Sandford St Martin, Oxfordshire
We take a careful look at the roof at your property in Sandford St Martin, and put it all in a report with photos.
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
Before and after the survey
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Let us know what you want to see
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. The photos show the location and extent of every problem, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.
About our drone roof survey in Sandford St Martin
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it is not safe. Common reasons to book are flat roofs on upper floors that hold water and chimney tops in poor condition, on large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters.
In a village or hamlet like Sandford St Martin, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

Drone roof surveys around Sandford St Martin
The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so check with the council.
Around Sandford St Martin, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in. Take an older house close to Church of St Martin: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

What we cannot see
To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you before booking. What our survey covers.

What we need to know
The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, tell us:
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- The address and postcode of the property
- Anything about access we should know

Sandford St Martin: your questions answered
Do you cover smaller places like Sandford St Martin?
Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.
Is drone flying allowed in Sandford St Martin?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We carry out surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We check the roof, not the whole building, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We check everything that can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We point out what can be seen, like sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.
When does the report arrive?
Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when booking.
What happens on the day
You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, like stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere as small as Sandford St Martin, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- We also look inside the loft space where it is safe.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Before the survey
- Check the loft hatch can be reached
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Let us know where we can park nearby
Book a survey
If you are buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply phone 07833 053749 or send us an email whenever suits you.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in.
Landlords, agents and block managers in Sandford St Martin
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.
