Drone roof survey in Shalmsford Street

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. If you’ve noticed vegetation in valleys and gutters and coverings that have slipped high up on the roof, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

Even in a smaller place like Shalmsford Street, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

We write the report in plain English, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Photos show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

Roof by roof

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

Ridges and hips

Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.

What we do, step by step

We don’t take risks to get a closer look. We inspect what can safely be seen, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take an hour or two on an ordinary house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Being in a smaller place like Shalmsford Street does not change how the visit works: we look from the ground, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it’s safe. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

DIY checks: what’s safe

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.

Common questions in Shalmsford Street

Will you come out to Shalmsford Street?

Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

Is my home in Shalmsford Street listed or in a conservation area?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

What happens next?

You will receive the report by email, and you decide the next step: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.

Does your drone take thermal images?

Our drone survey is about close-up photographs. If you need thermal imaging, it’s part of the Premium Survey, as a separate check.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.

How long will you be at the property?

It normally takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Time for the pre-flight checks is included.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Shalmsford Street

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • The roof’s overall size
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • Basic, Standard or Premium

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

Helping us price your survey

When you call or email, these details help:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • The property’s address and postcode

To get a price for drone roof surveys in Shalmsford Street, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. The address, the type of property and what you need to know help us price the survey accurately.

Before and after the survey

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:

  • Let us know the exact address when you book
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Tell us about any leaks or concerns
  • Move stored items away from the hatch

Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Photographing a roof from the air doesn’t touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. In a smaller place like Shalmsford Street, wherever a roof is exposed, a loose ridge or flashing doesn’t stay loose for long. Wind gets under it and lifts more.

A Basic Survey starts from £150, including VAT. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. We confirm the price for your roof before you book.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Shalmsford Street

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
