Drone roof survey in Sindlesham: what you get

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We will tell you if another approach would work better. If you’ve noticed slipped or missing slates on a high roof and ridge and hip pieces working loose, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

In a small place like Sindlesham, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Sindlesham: your questions answered

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Sindlesham?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Sindlesham?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.

How long does the survey take?

It normally takes an hour or two at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. The report follows by email.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement.

Are you insured?

Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Can you survey in bad weather?

It can, depending on the survey. Drones can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. We will rearrange with you if the weather isn’t right.

How we price drone roof surveys

All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • The size of the roof

For a price for your roof in Sindlesham, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the roof. We’ll confirm the figure before booking.

Booking your survey

What helps most when you contact us:

  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Anything about access we should know
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

If you are buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form when you’re ready.

What happens if roof problems are left?

On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By that stage the damage has spread inside. A drone survey finds them sooner. Outbuildings and barns around Sindlesham are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT.

How the survey works

We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit typically takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Around Sindlesham, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Roof by roof

Ridges and hips

Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.

Large commercial roofs

Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. With a drone, nobody has to go near them.

Tips that help

You do not need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:

  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Move stored items away from the hatch

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to talk through the photos and findings. It’s a chance to ask about anything in the report.

Keep the loft space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Check insulation doesn’t block the airflow.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners. A written report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof, which helps you plan work between tenancies.

With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Airspace, weather and Sindlesham roofs

What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand, before anyone quotes for re-roofing. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of St Catherine, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Take a building like Bearwood Primary School: big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.
