Our roof survey service in RG41
A roof survey tells you what condition your roof is in, before small faults become big ones. We look at the coverings, the ridges and hips, the valleys and flashings, the chimneys and the gutters, and the roof space where there’s safe access. You get a report with photos and recommendations. Where it is relevant, the recommendations are prioritised by urgency. We survey clay and concrete tiles, ridges, hips and valleys and chimney stacks, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are worn or blocked valleys and loose ridge or hip tiles.
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes about one to two hours at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. You are welcome to ask questions while we’re there.
- We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
- On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
- We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.

Near you in Winnersh
Around Winnersh, our work takes us to homes and buildings near Maiden Erlegh Local Nature Reserve, The Poachers pub and The Forest School. Nearby too are Winnersh Primary School (0.5 miles north-east) and St Mary the Virgin (under half a mile east). There is a railway station in Winnersh itself: Winnersh station. Other landmarks nearby include Berkshire Library & Museum of Freemasonry (0.6 miles south-west) and Wokingham Hospital (2.1 miles south-east). Not far away are Lavells Lake and South Lake.
Roof surveys across RG41: local notes
Homes across RG41 range from older properties with chimneys and lead flashings to newer houses with concrete tiles. Sooner or later, every roof needs its gutters, flashings and coverings checked.
London and South East England mix slate and clay tile roofs on older homes with concrete tiles on many later ones. Each roof in RG41 is checked with its age and materials in mind.
Winnersh: Anyone responsible for a site like The Forest School will know that a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time. Take an older house close to St Mary the Virgin: its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first.
What affects the cost of roof surveys
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- The shape of the roof and its details
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
What to tell us when you contact us
You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just tell us:
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Your timetable, like an exchange date
- Where the property is, with the postcode
Most bookings start with a short call: ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email, and we’ll ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Roof by roof
Clay plain and peg tiles
Clay tiles are common on older South East homes. When pegs or battens rot, tiles slip.
Chimney stacks
Damp on a chimney breast inside often starts with the stack outside. We check the flashings and mortar for the cause.
What you can safely check yourself
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Tips that help
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:
- Take photos of any leaks as they happen
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
- Check the roof from ground level after storms
- Leave roof access to professionals
We email the report to you. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. Findings are explained in plain words, with recommendations.
Don’t block the vents at the eaves. A stuffy loft collects condensation, which can dampen timbers and insulation over time. Keep insulation clear of eaves vents.
What happens if roof problems are left?
If you are planning to sell, a roof survey can help you prepare. You can deal with defects before a buyer’s surveyor finds them.
What to check before booking
- How much experience they have with roofs like yours
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- How long the report takes to arrive
- What happens after the report arrives
Your questions about roof surveys in RG41
What’s the best way to book?
To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
What insurance do you have?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and details are available on request.
Do I need to be at home?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access; we’ll agree the details when you book.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
Will the report say how many years my roof has left?
We do not put a figure on it, since the fixings, underlay and maintenance all play a part. What we do is explain the roof’s condition and what to deal with first.
Can you look at a roof that’s joined to next door?
Yes, we can. We inspect what the owner gives us access to. Where a defect looks to be on the neighbour’s side, the report says so.
When will the report arrive?
That depends on which survey you choose: within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. We send it by email.
