Questions from South Stifford

Do you cover smaller places like South Stifford?

Yes, South Stifford is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in South Stifford?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in South Stifford?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, and it’s agreed before booking.

When does the report arrive?

Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know as you book.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we do not carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

Do you need to get into the loft?

If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in South Stifford

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it is not safe. Typical surveys look at blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and moss building up on slopes and in gutters, across chimney stacks, fragile roofs and large and complex roofs.

Around South Stifford, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the coverings down to the gutters, each with a short note and a photograph. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

Can I check my roof myself?

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.

Before and after the survey

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Our tips:

  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year, and whether work has done its job.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.

Drone roof surveys around South Stifford

South Stifford lies within about 5 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

Anyone responsible for a site like Harris Primary Academy Chafford Hundred will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near All Saints' Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

Common roof problems in South Stifford

Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Chimney tops in poor condition
  • Lifted or split lead flashings
  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters

If you run a business near Lakeside Shopping Centre, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.

Before booking anyone

  • What follow-up you get after the report
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • What they won’t be able to tell you
  • How soon the report will arrive

What to expect from a roof survey

The survey, step by step

Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey usually takes roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. A visit to a smaller place like South Stifford is no different on the day: we look from the ground, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it is safe. It is useful to show us anything you’ve already noticed.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
