Drone roof surveys for East Tilbury homes and businesses

What happens on the day

You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. A visit to East Tilbury is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets in another room
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Check we can get to the back of the property

Drone roof survey in East Tilbury

A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see inside. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there’s no safe loft access, the report says so. Common reasons to book are ponding and splits on a high flat roof and wind damage high on the roof, on flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks.

In smaller places like East Tilbury, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from ground level. The parts you can’t see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from ground level misses.

Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photograph. You will see the good as well as the bad.

What you can safely check yourself

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

East Tilbury questions

Will you come out to East Tilbury?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

How do I find out if my home in East Tilbury is listed?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Does your drone take thermal images?

Not as part of the drone survey, which is about close-up photos. For thermal imaging, look at the Premium Survey or our thermal roof survey, and its findings are checked with moisture readings.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Just say which days work for you.

Does the weather affect a drone survey?

Bad weather means no flight. Wind and heavy rain are the two things that ground a small drone, so a new date is agreed with you, or look from other safe viewpoints if you’d rather.

Will I get photos?

Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.

How long does a drone roof survey take?

On site, it usually takes an hour or two on an ordinary house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. That includes the checks before the drone goes up.

What we look for on each type of roof

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Valleys and parapet gutters

Valleys and parapet gutters are hidden from the street. A drone shows linings, joints and build-ups of debris.

What this survey can’t tell you

Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.

What we check

  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

Airspace, weather and East Tilbury roofs

East Tilbury is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

For an older house near a landmark such as St Francis, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. Take a building like East Tilbury Primary School: big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Why act early in East Tilbury

Planning roof work without seeing the roof is a gamble. Our report shows the condition of each area, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. You can tackle the urgent items first. In a smaller place like East Tilbury, wherever a roof is exposed, a loose ridge or flashing does not stay loose for long. Each storm lifts it a little further, and water follows.

A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. We confirm the exact price before you book.

Practical tips

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps
  • Let us know about any leaks or concerns
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Shut pets inside while we fly

There is a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Check insulation doesn’t block the airflow.
