FAQs for Low Street
Is my home in Low Street listed or in a conservation area?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Low Street?
Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys run seven days a week. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
How quickly is the report sent?
It depends on the package: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.
Do you look in the loft space?
If it is needed and safe to reach, yes. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging.
What will the report tell me?
It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photos. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Drone roof survey in Low Street
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. A drone takes close-up photographs of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. Everything we find goes into a written report with photographs. It’s also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight is not possible, we explain why. We survey chimney stacks, tall and steep roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and people most often book us about slipped or missing slates on a high roof and vegetation in valleys and gutters.
Some older homes in villages like Low Street are listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
The report records the roof as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

What this survey can’t tell you
No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:
- A flight where airspace permission is refused
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will suggest the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.
What we check
- Chimney stacks
- Large and complex roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
When to book a survey in Low Street
Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. From above, they’re easy to see.
Common reasons to book include:
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
- Flashings that have come away
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
Take a building like East Tilbury Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- Are they insured for the work?
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Is VAT included in the price?
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?

Tips that help
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Let us know the exact address as you book
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.
How it works
We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the loft space if there’s safe access. All told, expect roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere like Low Street needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- We also look inside the loft space where it is safe.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Before the survey
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Leave a clear route to the loft

Drone roof surveys in Low Street: local notes
Low Street is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
Take an older house close to St James' Church: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

What you can safely check yourself
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
