About our drone roof survey in St Margarets
We carry out drone roof surveys in St Margarets and across London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs, and people most frequently book us about blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and eroded pointing on a chimney stack.
Some older homes in villages like St Margarets are listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Most points in the report come with a picture, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

What we cannot see
Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Fragile roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
How the survey works
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Rural addresses near St Margarets can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building

Common roof problems in St Margarets
The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are often invisible from below. Close-up drone photos show their condition.
Typical things we’re asked to look at include:
- Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
Anyone responsible for a site like Greenlands Primary School will know that big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- Their report turnaround times
- What they won’t be able to tell you
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- Roof area
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- House, block, shop or office
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.
Booking your survey
Getting the details right at the start saves time. Please include:
- Dates you are working to, like exchange
- The property’s address and postcode
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
If you’re buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or email us when you’re ready.
DIY checks: what’s safe
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when booking.
A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Before and after the survey
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
- Let us know the exact address when you book
Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.
St Margarets: your questions answered
Is drone flying allowed in St Margarets?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Do you cover smaller places like St Margarets?
Yes. St Margarets is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, so you can see what we mean.
Does someone need to be in?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We’ll talk about access when booking.
How do I book a survey in St Margarets?
It’s easiest to ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Let us know the address and a little about the roof. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.
How soon will I get the report?
Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, like an exchange date, tell us when booking.
What if it rains on the day?
It depends on the weather and the survey. In strong wind or a downpour, a drone cannot fly and access may not be safe, so we’d move the date with you.

Older houses across Kent frequently have handmade clay or peg tiles, and many have tile-hung walls. The county’s older buildings also include oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
