Need a drone roof survey in Grubb Street?

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Grubb Street

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it’s worth letting them know about the visit. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. We survey fragile roofs, large and complex roofs and chimney stacks, and the problems we are asked to look at most are moss building up on slopes and in gutters and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots.

In a village or hamlet like Grubb Street, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

What we look for on each type of roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks frequently start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up, as far as the flight allows.

Large commercial roofs

Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We don’t test for it, but we flag it and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Grubb Street?

Large roofs take a long time to see on foot. The drone covers the surface area by area. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
  • Chimney tops in poor condition
  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of Saint Mary Magdalene, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

Before you book any roof surveyor

  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • Are they insured for the work?
  • Their track record with similar roofs

What’s in a roof survey

What we cannot see

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. What our survey covers.

Why it is worth a survey now in Grubb Street

Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Grubb Street, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 with VAT included. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Grubb Street questions

Are there drone restrictions around Grubb Street?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Grubb Street?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.

How long will you be at the property?

Most surveys take an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The report follows by email.

Will you check the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging, as far as the space allows.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

Checking the roof from the ground

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

It is useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book, as it helps us focus the survey.

Lullingstone Castle, about 5 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Grubb Street. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. The survey, step by step

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. Most visits take between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere like Grubb Street needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Let us know about parking before the day
  • For flats, check roof access has been agreed
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
