About our drone roof survey in Staplestreet
Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. We’re frequently asked to look into blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and ridge and hip pieces working loose, on fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs.
Some older homes in villages like Staplestreet are listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

Roof by roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Widespread slipping on slate normally means nail fatigue. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.
Ridges and hips
Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
Flying and imaging in Staplestreet
Staplestreet is within about 4 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Michael, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Staplestreet is about 3 miles east of Faversham, in Kent. We cover Staplestreet and the rest of Kent, as part of our work across London and South East England. Our area takes in places right across Kent. Canterbury is in our area too.

If you are just outside Staplestreet, we cover Slutshole (1 mile north-east), Hernhill (1 mile north-east), Goodnestone (1 mile north-west), Culmers (1 mile north) and Dargate (1 mile north-east). Common roof problems in Staplestreet
Many roofs are never seen properly from ground level. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Problems in those places frequently go unseen until they leak, which is why owners turn to a drone.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Boughton-under-Blean and Dunkirk Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

What happens on the day
It is useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit usually takes an hour or two for a house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Somewhere as small as Staplestreet, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Related advice
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.
FAQs for Staplestreet
Will you come out to Staplestreet?
Yes, Staplestreet is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Are there drone restrictions around Staplestreet?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and they go into the written report.
Do I need to be at home?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
What happens next?
We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.
How much is a survey?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT.
Do you look in the roof space?
If there’s a loft and safe access to it, yes. The roof space can show things the outside can’t, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.
What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover
A survey is a proper look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. The main limits are:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the survey around it.
