What this survey cannot tell you

No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:

  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.

Drone roof survey in Stisted

Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or is not safe. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We will tell you if another approach would work better. If you are worried about blocked valleys and parapet gutters and wind damage high on the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Villages like Stisted often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

What we look for on each type of roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Felt often lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. We record the signs of age we can see.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Walking on fragile coverings can break them. The drone sees them without touching them, so the survey does not add damage.

Stisted: your questions answered

Are there drone restrictions around Stisted?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is my home in Stisted listed or in a conservation area?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, which makes the report easy to follow.

When does the report arrive?

Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when booking.

How much is a survey?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for your survey before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

Do you work in Stisted?

Yes. We cover Stisted and the rest of Essex, as part of our work across London and South East England. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Can you survey in bad weather?

Light rain is usually fine; heavy rain and wind are different. In strong wind or heavy rain, a drone can’t fly and access may not be safe, so we’d move the date with you.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Stisted

After storms, owners want to know what has moved. It’s hard to tell from below what has shifted. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Lifted or split lead flashings
  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Debris building up in hidden gutters

If you live in an older home near Parish Church of All Saints, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

What to check before booking

  • Their track record with similar roofs
  • What the survey will not cover
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • Are they insured for the work?

What’s in a roof survey

What a drone roof survey looks like in Stisted

Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, and a good many post-war and modern estates besides. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

Anyone responsible for a site like Stisted Church of England Primary Academy will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Stisted

Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant beforehand.

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Tell us about it when you book and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.

Before and after the survey

Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:

  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Let us know about any leaks or concerns
  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly.

Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone can show exactly what has moved.

The survey, step by step

You don’t need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes between one and two hours for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Older rural homes like those around Stisted can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we cannot see is noted.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
