Drone roof survey in The Brents: what you get

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey large and complex roofs, tall and steep roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and people most frequently book us about damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below.

In smaller places like The Brents, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from ground level. The parts you cannot see, like rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from the ground.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Drone roof surveys in The Brents: local notes

The Brents is within about 3 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Within a mile and a half or so of The Brents there are several hotels. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Davington Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. Hotels and guest houses near The Brents cannot easily close rooms for a leak, so it pays to find faults before guests do.

The Brents is about 1 mile north-east of Faversham, in Kent. We carry out drone roof surveys for householders, landlords and businesses in The Brents. Our Kent coverage includes The Brents and the places around it. There’s also a page for Canterbury.

What we look for on each type of roof

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Widespread slipping on slate normally means nail fatigue. We can see the extent of it from above.

What a survey costs

Our packages start from £150, inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on:

  • The size of the roof
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • House, block, shop or office

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

What we need to know

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Your timetable, like an exchange date
  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one

Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.

What we do, step by step

The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photographs go into the written report. The visit usually takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Parking around The Brents is usually easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from ground level, with the loft showing the underside.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
  • Let us know about parking near the property

Advice

Checking the roof from the ground

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

Common roof problems in The Brents

Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.

It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Lifted or split lead flashings
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted

With Belmont House and Gardens about 3.9 miles south-west, the area around The Brents has a long history. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Are they insured for the work?
  • What exactly goes into their report
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one

What a good roof survey covers

Your questions about drone roof surveys in The Brents

Do you cover smaller places like The Brents?

Yes, The Brents is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

Is drone flying allowed in The Brents?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only if it is safe. We check everything that can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in The Brents?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the exact price before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. To get a price, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

What insurance do you have?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

Does someone need to be in?

That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers. We’ll recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
