Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Vigo Village

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs cannot always be inspected up close. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. Everything we find goes into a photo-illustrated written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. We’re often asked to look into moss and weeds taking hold up top and tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack, on fragile roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and large and complex roofs.

Older buildings in small places like Vigo Village may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the coverings down to the gutters, with a note and a photo for each point. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

What happens if roof problems are left?

A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so you see the roof exactly as it is. Around Vigo Village, older homes often have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.

Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. We confirm the price for the job before booking.

Flying and imaging in Vigo Village

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

Historic houses such as Cobham College, about 4.4 miles north, show how far back building around Vigo Village goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. Take a building like Vigo Village School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Vigo Village questions

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Vigo Village?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Will you come out to Vigo Village?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Let us know your preferred days when you book.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.

What happens after the survey?

You receive the written report by email, with photographs and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Is your drone operator registered?

Yes, we are. The CAA has issued us a Flyer ID and an Operator ID, and we fly a drone that weighs under 250g, kept within sight on every flight.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

Honest limits

Before you book, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:

  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will suggest the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

Roofs we survey in Vigo Village

  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

How the survey changes by roof type

Steep slate and tile slopes

Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. The drone sees them without touching them, so the survey doesn’t add damage.

Valleys and parapet gutters

Hidden gutters and valleys sit out of sight. A drone shows linings, joints and build-ups of debris.

The survey, step by step

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. You are welcome to ask questions while we are there. Rural addresses near Vigo Village can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • For flats, check roof access has been agreed
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

How to book

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the details.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Vigo Village?

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until it causes a leak inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:

  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Chimney tops in poor condition
  • Wind damage high on the roof

Take an older house close to Church of St Peter and St Paul: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • Their track record with similar roofs
  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • What happens after the report arrives

What’s in a roof survey

Can I check my roof myself?

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
