Drone roof surveys near Warborne

Airspace, weather and Warborne roofs

Warborne lies within about 2 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Warborne means lost rooms as well as repairs, so it pays to find faults before guests do. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Southlands School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Warborne

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and fragile roofs, and people most frequently book us about storm damage on steep or tall roofs and coverings that have slipped high up on the roof.

In a village or hamlet like Warborne, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photo. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

The survey, step by step

Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a written report with photos, emailed to you. On timing, it typically takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Warborne often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we cannot see is noted.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

Can I check my roof myself?

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

What we’re asked to look at in Warborne

Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Chimney tops in poor condition
  • Standing water on a flat roof
  • Wind damage high on the roof
  • Debris building up in hidden gutters

Beaulieu Palace House, about 4.9 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Warborne. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • Are they insured for the work?
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • Their track record with similar roofs
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?

What a good roof survey covers

Warborne questions

Will you come out to Warborne?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Is my home in Warborne listed or in a conservation area?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

How soon will I get the report?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email.

What does the report include?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, and ends with what we recommend. Points are put by urgency where it matters.

Are there drone restrictions in central London?

It depends where in central London. Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas that need NATS permission. We check each address first, and fall back on other viewpoints if we can’t fly.

What if my home is near an airport?

That depends on where the roof is. Flying inside a flight restriction zone needs permission from the airport or air traffic control. Book early if you think you may be affected.

Roof by roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.

Steep slate and tile slopes

On slate roofs, slipped slates frequently point to corroded nails. We can see the extent of it from above.

What affects the price in Warborne

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:

  • How big the roof is
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • Which survey package you book

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

Booking your survey

The more you let us know, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, tell us:

  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange

Booking is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email, let us know about the property and we’ll point you to the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.

Why get it checked now?

It’s hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. You get photographs of every part we can see. That helps you put the work in order. In a small place like Warborne, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all including VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
