Bull Hill Drone Roof Survey
Drone roof surveys in Bull Hill and the rest of Hampshire. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
Before and after the survey
Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
- Make sure the loft can be reached
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, so small faults are dealt with early.
Drone roof survey in Bull Hill
Every flight starts with an airspace check. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and explain why. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. If you are worried about lifted or split lead flashings and moss building up on slopes and in gutters, we can find out what’s behind it.
Older buildings in small places like Bull Hill may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Drones, thermal imaging and Bull Hill roofs
Bull Hill is within about 2 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from the ground, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.
If you live in an older home near Saint Nicholas Chapel, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. For site and facilities teams at buildings like William Gilpin Church of England Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
Bull Hill is about 2 miles north-east of Lymington, in Hampshire. Bull Hill gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photographs and a written report. Our Hampshire coverage includes Bull Hill and the places around it. For surveys nearby, see our Southampton page.
We work across SO41 for drone roof surveys and the streets around it. Whether your property is on Holly Lane and Jordans Lane or a nearby road, we can help. We also cover Pilley Bailey (1 mile north-west), Pilley (1 mile west), Portmore (1 mile south), Warborne (1 mile south-west) and Boldre (1 mile west). Larger places within reach include Eastleigh (15 miles north-east), Fareham (15 miles east), Totton (9 miles north), Chandler's Ford (15 miles north-east), Hedge End (13 miles north-east) and Romsey (15 miles north).
Around Bull Hill
We work in homes and buildings around Southlands School, among other places. For rail, the closest station is Lymington Town station, about 1.8 miles south-west. Well-known places in the area include Lymington New Forest Hospital (1.5 miles south-west) and St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery (2 miles south-west). Not far away are Boldre Foreshore.
The survey, step by step
It’s useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit usually takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older rural homes like those around Bull Hill can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
How to prepare
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

What else we do in Bull Hill
Bull Hill: your questions answered
Is my home in Bull Hill listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Will you come out to Bull Hill?
Yes. Bull Hill is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
How long does the visit take?
Allow roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. We’ll give you an idea of timing as you book.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and testing aren’t part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
Will the drone film my neighbours?
We keep the camera on the roof we’re surveying, not on neighbouring gardens or windows. We only survey what the owner has asked us to. If your roof is shared, it helps to tell your neighbours about the visit.
Will the drone show what’s under the tiles?
No. The drone photographs the outer surfaces, but not the loft or the underside. We look in the loft from inside where it is safe.
When you need someone else
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- Fragile roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Large and complex roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks

Do you need a drone roof survey in Bull Hill?
Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. From the ground, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. Close-up drone photos show their condition.
We’re often asked to look at:
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
Historic houses like Beaulieu Palace House, about 3.9 miles north-east, show how far back building around Bull Hill goes. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- Their track record with similar roofs
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
- What happens after the report arrives
- Is VAT included in the price?
What you can safely check yourself
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
