Why act early in West Clandon

A drone record gives you a baseline. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It’s useful for planning maintenance over the years. For older village homes like those around West Clandon, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and the package you choose.

Drone roof survey in West Clandon

From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it can’t see under the coverings or into the loft. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, since that’s where leaks and condensation often show first. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. Common reasons to book are plant growth and moss on the roof and lifted or split lead flashings, across tall and steep roofs, large and complex roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.

In a village or hamlet like West Clandon, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned in advance. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, along with how urgent it is.

Practical tips

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:

  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed

The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. They’ll see exactly where each defect is, so their quotes cover the same ground.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, particularly in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

When to book a survey in West Clandon

Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and some sheet roofs are fragile. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.

Things that often lead to a survey include:

  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Chimney tops in poor condition
  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles

If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of St Peter and St Paul, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?
  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price
  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • Their report turnaround times

What’s in a roof survey

When you need someone else

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.

West Clandon questions

How do I find out if my home in West Clandon is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Will you come out to West Clandon?

Yes. West Clandon is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Will you photograph next door’s garden?

The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring gardens or windows. We only survey what the owner has asked us to. If your roof is shared, it is useful to tell your neighbours about the visit.

Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?

That depends on where the roof is. Inside a flight restriction zone, we need permission first. Allow a little extra time if your home is close to an airport.

What insurance do you have?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We carry out surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

How experienced are you?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.

The survey, step by step

The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit usually takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Around West Clandon, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets in another room
  • Let us know about parking near the property
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch

Drone roof surveys around West Clandon

With Clandon Park about 1.2 miles south, West Clandon sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Clandon CofE Aided Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
