Chalkshire Electronic Leak Detection
Electronic leak detection to pinpoint holes in flat roof membranes in Chalkshire, with drones and thermal imaging where they help. Get in touch for a price.
- Failed seams and laps
- Breaches around outlets and penetrations
- A flat roof leak that cannot be traced
For landlords and managing agents
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.
Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed in advance. Surveys run seven days a week, which can make access easier.
Electronic leak detection in Chalkshire: what you get
ELD suits many waterproofing membranes on flat roofs, on homes, blocks and commercial buildings. It helps trace a leak you already have or to test a new membrane before it’s covered. We quote for each roof based on its size and build-up. We can test on weekdays and at weekends when conditions allow. Just ask about your roof. If you’ve noticed damage from equipment installers and leaks showing away from the breach, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on liquid-applied waterproofing, flat roof membranes and roof terraces and balconies alike.
Some older homes in villages like Chalkshire are listed or in a conservation area, and that can affect how an extension roof or dormer is re-covered. Check with the council before planning any change of material. Knowing the roof’s condition is the starting point. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent.
The report is written in plain words, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Photographs show what each point refers to.

What a survey costs
We confirm the price for the job before you book. These are the things that affect it:
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- Roof area
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and some details. We will confirm the figure before booking.
What we need to know
We will usually ask about:
- What’s prompted the survey
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- The kind of building and roof involved
Most bookings start with a short call: ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will ask a few questions about the roof. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.
Chalkshire questions
Is Chalkshire in the area you cover?
Yes, Chalkshire is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Do you cover smaller places like Chalkshire?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Does ELD include fixing the breach?
No, our part is finding the breaches. The report gives your roofer the locations.
How do you choose the testing method?
The roof decides the method. You will know which method we plan to use before we start.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of customers are satisfied.
Can you test a green or ballasted roof?
On some roofs, yes. What sits on the membrane affects the method, so we check the build-up first.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
What electronic leak detection looks like in Chalkshire
Some villages in Buckinghamshire still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Flat roofs on extensions, dormers, garages and business units are found alongside them almost everywhere. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so check with the council.
The streets around a church such as Church of St Peter and St Paul are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, any flat roof added at the back or on a dormer is likely to be far younger, and less durable, than the main roof. For landlords with property near Little Kimble station, a flat roof over a rented flat is easy to forget until the tenant reports a leak.

What else we do in Chalkshire
Do you need electronic leak detection in Chalkshire?
Roofs covered with paving, ballast or planting hide the membrane. ELD can work on some covered roofs though it depends on the layers.
A survey can pick up problems such as:
- A flat roof leak that cannot be traced
- Gaps at membrane joints
- New membranes needing a check before handover
- Stains far from any visible defect
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as John Colet School, ponding and blocked outlets on a wide flat roof are worth catching before the next wet season.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- Is VAT included in the price?
- Are they insured for the work?
- How long the report takes to arrive
- Their track record with similar roofs
What we look for on each type of roof
Inverted and paved roofs
If the build-up rules out ELD, we will say so.
Liquid-applied waterproofing
Testing a liquid-applied roof depends on what’s beneath the coating.
When you need someone else
A survey is a proper look at the flat roof membrane, but it can’t do everything. The main limits are:
- Fixing the holes we find
- The extent of water in the insulation
- Leaks from plumbing or windows
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.

- Green roofs
- Flat roof membranes
- Roof terraces and balconies
- Single-ply roofs
- Liquid-applied waterproofing
- Commercial flat roofs
How the survey works
The visit has one job: to look at the flat roof membrane as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. It usually takes a length of time set by the membrane area and the build-up, which we’ll explain when we quote. Somewhere like Chalkshire needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- We agree the area to be tested.
- The surface is prepared for the chosen method.
- Testing runs across the agreed area.
- Each breach found is located and recorded.
- You receive the results to pass to your roofer.
Before the survey
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
