Murcott Gutter Survey
Gutter surveys in Murcott, with over 20 years’ experience behind it. You get a clear report with photos.
- Downpipes that are split or coming away
- Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water
- Water backing up from a hidden gutter
What we’re asked to look at in Murcott
Many gutter joints depend on rubber seals or sealant that age. Plastic gutters move with heat and cold, and in time their joints can drip. On cast iron, joints can rust and open up once the paint has worn away.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Leaking or loose downpipes
- Blocked outlets and hoppers
- Sagging gutters and loose brackets
- Gutters full of debris and silt
If you own a rental within reach of Islip station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- Will the report include photos?
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
How a gutter survey works in Murcott
We survey gutters and rainwater systems in Murcott and right across London and South East England. We inspect everything we can see safely, from the ground, from windows and from the loft space. A visit usually takes between one and two hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Afterwards, you get a written report with photos and recommendations. Typical surveys look at rotten fascias or stained soffits and joints that drip after rain, on outlets and hoppers, downpipes and valley gutters.
In a small place like Murcott, many roofs stand in the open, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are frequently the first to give way.
The report is written in plain words, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Photos show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

Why it is worth a survey now in Murcott
A written report gives you a dated record of the gutters’ condition, useful when you’re planning maintenance or getting work priced. Without it, you are relying on what can be seen from the pavement. Around Murcott, older homes frequently have old roof timbers, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it is left.
A Basic Survey starts from £150, with VAT included. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. You’ll know the price for your survey before booking.

What we do, step by step
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photos, sent to you by email. On timing, most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. Rural addresses near Murcott can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
- We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from ground level.
- Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can safely be seen.
- The roof space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

What a gutter survey looks like in Murcott
Older buildings in west Oxfordshire frequently have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first. The wider area around Murcott has a long history of building, with Boarstall Tower about 2.7 miles east. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

What we can’t see
To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Confirming asbestos in older rainwater goods
- What’s hidden inside a downpipe
- Parts of gutters that can’t be seen safely

What you can safely check yourself
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.
Murcott questions
How do I find out if my home in Murcott is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Islip station?
Yes, that’s a common request. Let us know whether a tenant or an agent will let us in, and we can send the report to you or your agent.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.
Will the survey check for asbestos?
No. We don’t test for asbestos. Where gutters, downpipes or soffits could be asbestos cement, we flag them so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check before any work.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only where it’s safe to do so. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Do you cover Murcott?
Yes. Murcott is part of the area we cover, and the service is the same as everywhere else we work.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed as you book.
