Gutter surveys near Perry Green

What we do, step by step

Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. In a hamlet or village like Perry Green, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. First, you let us know what you’ve seen, such as overflows or damp.
  2. Gutters, downpipes, fascias and soffits are inspected from safe vantage points.
  3. Valley, parapet and box gutters are inspected as far as they can safely be seen.
  4. The roof space is checked for water marks if it’s safe to get into.
  5. You get a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.

Gutter survey in Perry Green: what you get

Damp on walls, water marks under a valley or streaks down the brickwork can often be traced to the gutters. Our gutter survey helps show whether the rainwater system is the cause, from whatever is safely visible. If the evidence points elsewhere, such as a flashing or the roof covering, we’ll say so. The next step is suggested too. If you’re worried about gutters overflowing in heavy rain and dripping or leaking gutter joints, we can find out what’s behind it.

In a small place like Perry Green, many roofs stand in the open, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are often where weather gets in first.

Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Perry Green

If your home is older, it is worth knowing whether it is listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area. Older buildings in Essex frequently have clay tiles and weatherboarding, while many towns grew with post-war and newer estates. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first.

If you let a flat or house near Cressing station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at. If you look after a building such as Alec Hunter Academy, its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. If you live in an older home near Parish Church of the Holy Trinity, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs.

Before and after the survey

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:

  • Include valley, parapet and box gutters when clearing
  • Keep climbers away from the eaves
  • Check from the ground or a window, not a ladder
  • Watch the gutters during heavy rain

How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. We email it to you as soon as it’s ready.

Deal with drips, sags and loose downpipes early. Left alone, they typically grow and spilled water harms brickwork and woodwork.

When you need someone else

It helps to know what a survey won’t do before you book:

  • Underground drains, which need a CCTV drain survey
  • Rot or damp concealed behind fascias or inside walls
  • Whether a material contains asbestos (a specialist asbestos surveyor’s job)

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will suggest the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.

Different roofs, different checks

Aluminium and other metal gutters

Metal gutters are common on commercial buildings and some homes. Their joints and outlets still need checking.

Fascias and soffits

Fascias carry the gutters, so rot in the boards can loosen the whole run. Damaged or stained boards are recorded.

Why get it checked now?

Overflowing water soaks the walls under the gutter. Given time, it can cause damp patches, damaged pointing and rot in nearby timber. Finding the cause now normally keeps the fix smaller. Older and listed buildings around Perry Green may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Prices start from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Questions from Perry Green

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Perry Green?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

Is Perry Green within the area you cover?

Yes. Perry Green is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.

Will the survey check for asbestos?

No. We do not carry out asbestos testing. Where gutters, downpipes or soffits could be asbestos cement, we flag them so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check before any work.

Does the report include photos?

Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and they go into the written report alongside our recommendations.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. Our survey isn’t a structural engineer’s report. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

Will you check the drains below ground?

No. Our gutter survey covers rainwater above ground down to where the downpipes reach the ground. If a drain below ground looks like the cause, the report says so.
