Gutter surveys for South Ambersham homes and businesses

How a gutter survey works in South Ambersham

We survey gutters and rainwater systems in South Ambersham and right across London and the South East. We inspect everything we can see safely, from the ground, from windows and from the roof space. A visit normally takes about one to two hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. The written report follows, with photos and recommendations. We survey downpipes, valley gutters and fascias and soffits, and the problems we are asked to look at most are soffits marked by water and gutters that have fallen out of line.

Older buildings in small places like South Ambersham may be listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Older materials such as clay tiles, slate and stone are frequently matched when work is done.

Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, with a note and a photo for each point. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

What a survey costs

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Which survey package you book
  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages

A Basic Survey starts from £150, including VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. You will know the price for the job before booking.

What to tell us when you contact us

Before you get in touch, it helps to have:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date

Every survey is priced before it is booked, so you know where you stand. Our price is from £150, including VAT. To book, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we look at the roof.

What this survey can’t tell you

In fairness, a roof survey has limits:

  • What’s hidden inside a downpipe
  • What’s behind fascias and inside walls
  • Gutters out of sight from every safe vantage point

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Parapet and box gutters
  • Downpipes
  • Valley gutters
  • Outlets and hoppers
  • Eaves gutters
  • Fascias and soffits

Leave it or get it looked at?

Overflowing water soaks the walls under the gutter. Left for months, that can lead to damp inside, worn pointing and rotten timber. Spotting the problem early tends to mean a simpler fix. For older village homes like those around South Ambersham, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Prices start from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Why us?

  • Package prices that include VAT
  • Drone and thermal imaging surveys available
  • 20+ years’ experience
  • Independent findings on the roof’s condition

Gutter surveys in South Ambersham: local notes

In Sussex, older roofs are frequently handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them. With Cowdray House about 1.7 miles north-west, South Ambersham sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

Take a building like Midhurst Rother College: long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle. Take an older house close to Church of St James: its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.

Your questions about gutter surveys in South Ambersham

Do you carry out roof surveys in South Ambersham?

Yes, South Ambersham is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in South Ambersham as anywhere else.

Is my home in South Ambersham listed or in a conservation area?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

What’s the price of a gutter survey?

Our price is from £150, including VAT. The size of the property and the access affect the price. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Do you test soffits or gutters for asbestos?

No. We do not carry out asbestos testing. Where gutters, downpipes or soffits could be asbestos cement, we flag them and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

Yes. We survey on weekdays and at weekends. Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email to arrange a day.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.

Will you photograph what you find?

Yes. Photographs are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.

What happens on the day

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Rural addresses near South Ambersham can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
  2. We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from ground level.
  3. Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can be seen safely.
  4. The roof space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
  5. A written report with photos and recommendations follows.
