Albourne New Roof Snagging
Checking a new or replacement roof for snags in Albourne, carried out by an experienced roof surveyor. You get a clear written report with photographs.
- Offcuts and broken tiles left behind
- Flashings not properly dressed or fixed
- Underlay not dressed into the gutter
What we look for on each type of roof
Underlay and ventilation
We look in the roof space, where there’s safe access, at the underlay and ventilation.
Ridges, hips and verges
Verges are easy to get wrong and get a careful look.
New roof snagging in Albourne
Ventilation matters on a new roof. We look for ridge, eaves or tile vents where they’ve been fitted and look in the loft space for condensation. What we see goes in the report. Missing or blocked ventilation can lead to condensation over time, so it’s worth raising early. We record what we see. We’re often asked to look into underlay ending short at the eaves and untidy or loose verge details, across loft conversions and dormers, new-build homes and new flat roofs.
For a small place like Albourne, the visit is planned like any other: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages with roofs you’d like looked at as you book. Whether you’re buying or checking new work, the same care goes into it. Visits can be booked on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Albourne: your questions answered
Do you carry out roof surveys in Albourne?
We do. The survey and report are the same in Albourne as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Do you cover smaller places like Albourne?
Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We check the roof, not the whole building, so it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that ahead of time, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
Buying a home or a new roof in Albourne
Older houses across Sussex often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Each material has its own typical faults, which is what a buyer or the owner of a new roof needs to know about. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so the council is the place to ask.
If you own a rental within reach of Hassocks station, a survey before purchase, or before signing off a new roof, saves surprises once a tenant moves in.

What else we do in Albourne
What affects the price in Albourne
We confirm the price for your roof before you book. These are the things that affect it:
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The roof’s overall size
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.
Booking your survey
Before you get in touch, it is useful to have:
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- The kind of building and roof involved
Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We’ll explain the options and the price.
Landlords, agents and block managers in Albourne
Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work around your tenants.
If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, ring 07833 053749 or email us with the addresses.
Do you need new roof snagging in Albourne?
Flashings at walls and chimneys often need attention. Loose or badly fitted flashings can let water in sooner rather than later.
Problems we come across often include:
- Damage to other parts of the building
- Poorly finished verges
- Ridge and hip tiles not properly fixed
- Underlay not dressed into the gutter
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near The Parish Church of St Bartholomew, the roof’s history matters as much as its looks, and a survey brings the past repairs to light.
Questions to ask before you book
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- Will the report include photos?
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
What this survey can’t tell you
This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Nails and clips under the slates or tiles
- How the roof will perform for years to come
- Areas out of view from each safe vantage point
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- New-build homes
- Flashings and valleys
- Ridges and verges
- Replacement roofs
- New flat roofs
- Loft conversions and dormers
The survey, step by step
There is not much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will take it from there. A typical survey takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Around Albourne, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it’s safe.
- We ask what work was done and when it was finished.
- The coverings, ridges, hips and verges are checked as far as can safely be seen.
- Valleys, flashings, gutters and the underlay at the eaves are looked at.
- The loft space is checked where safe, along with any mess or damage left after the work.
- You get a photo report listing the snags we found.
Getting ready for the survey
- Keep pets in another room
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
