Independent new roof snagging in Heathfield

New roof snagging in Heathfield: what you get

The best time for snagging is before the final payment, while the roofer is still on hand. If you’ve already paid, check before any defects or warranty period runs out. That gives you time to raise any snags. You get a written list of snags with photos, ready to pass on in good time. If you’ve noticed signs of condensation in the roof space and gaps at new flashings, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Around Heathfield, you’ll mostly find houses and bungalows of different ages. Older roofs may still have their original slates or clay tiles, with fixings and underlay that have done a long stint. Whether you are buying or have just had the roof replaced, that hidden layer is worth knowing about. Older roofs often have bitumen felt under the coverings, as breathable membranes only arrived in the late 1990s.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photographs show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

It is useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.

Heathfield questions

Will you come out to Heathfield?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Heathfield?

Yes. We work right across London and the South East, and Heathfield is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Let us know your preferred days as you book.

Are you insured?

Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and details are available on request.

How experienced are you?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.

Can you settle a dispute with my builder?

No. We report on what we see. A disagreement about the work is between you and them and our report gives you an independent record.

How we price new roof snagging

All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • The size of the roof
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • Basic, Standard or Premium

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.

What to let us know when you get in touch

We’ll normally ask about:

  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Anything about access we should know

Our price is from £150, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email to find out.

What we do, step by step

It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. Most visits take between one and two hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. Being in a smaller place like Heathfield does not change how the visit works: we look from ground level, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it’s safe. It is useful to show us anything you’ve already noticed.

  1. We agree what to focus on, such as a payment date or a warranty period ending.
  2. We inspect as far as safe access allows.
  3. Each detail at ridges, verges, valleys and flashings is looked at.
  4. Debris and damage to other parts are recorded.
  5. You receive a report to share with your roofer.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Leave a clear route to the loft

Signs you need new roof snagging in Heathfield

A roof is hard for most owners to see properly. From the pavement, many faults are invisible before you pay.

Things that frequently lead to a survey include:

  • Damage to other parts of the building
  • Missing or blocked roof ventilation
  • Loose flashings at walls or chimneys
  • Broken coverings left on a new roof

Whatever the street in Heathfield, a roof costs least to look after when faults are caught early.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
  • Whether the price includes VAT
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see

What to expect from a roof survey

Buying a home or a new roof in Heathfield

There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so check with the council. Older houses across Sussex often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings, alongside oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. For a purchase or a newly finished roof, the materials decide which details matter most.

If you live in an older home near St Richards Church, the roof’s history matters as much as its looks, and a survey brings the past repairs to light.
