Pre-purchase roof survey in Temple, Buckinghamshire
Find out the condition of the roof at your property in Temple from an independent roof surveyor. We visit on weekdays and at weekends.

- Bitumen or mortar used in place of proper repairs
- Ponding, blisters or splits on a flat roof
About our pre-purchase roof survey in Temple
Buying a flat brings its own roof questions. The lease decides who looks after the roof, and that’s frequently not the individual flat owner. We inspect what access allows us to see safely, and the report gives you clear points to raise with your solicitor or the managing agent. If the building has a flat roof, we check that too where access allows. We’re often asked to look into blocked or leaking gutters and damp timbers or stains in the loft, on clay and concrete tiles, chimney stacks and the roof space.
For a small place like Temple, the visit is planned like any other: the journey, parking and access are simply agreed in advance. If there are outbuildings with roofs you want checked, mention them as you book. Whether you’re buying or checking new work, the same care goes into it. Weekday and weekend visits are both available.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
What a pre-purchase roof survey looks like in Temple
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. For a purchase or a newly finished roof, the materials decide which details matter most. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
The streets around a church like Church of All Saints are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, the roof may have had decades of patch repairs, and the survey shows where they are. With Harleyford Manor about 0.9 miles west, the area around Temple has a long history. If you’re buying an older home nearby, it is worth knowing whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before you plan any re-roofing. Landlords with a home close to Marlow station may find that a written report helps before buying a rental or paying for a new roof on one.

What a survey costs
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
Pre-purchase roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can safely be seen and which survey you book.
What to tell us when you get in touch
A few details help us suggest the right survey and price. When you contact us, it helps to mention:
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- The kind of building and roof involved
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
- The address and postcode of the property
Getting a price is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email, let us know about the property and we’ll point you to the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.
How the survey changes by roof type
Natural slate
Many older homes in London and the South East have slate roofs. We look for slates that have slid, cracked or gone, and for clips or tingles that show past repairs.
Chimney stacks
A leaning stack, cracked flaunching or crumbling pointing can all need work. We photograph them so you can raise them before exchange.
Temple questions
Is my home in Temple listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Do you cover Temple?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos.
Is your roof survey a RICS survey?
No. It is a dedicated roof survey, and you get a written report with photos. It does not cover the rest of the property, which a RICS survey does.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Just say which days work for you.
What’s the best way to book?
The quickest way is to phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Give us the address and a few details about the roof, and we’ll suggest the right survey. We survey on weekdays and at weekends.
How experienced are you?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.
How long does the survey visit take?
It normally takes between one and two hours at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. The report follows within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.

Why act early in Temple
It’s tempting to skip the roof to keep a sale moving. Weekend visits are available as well as weekdays, and a Premium report comes the same day, so it can fit around a tight timetable. Older and listed buildings around Temple may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

Useful tips for Temple property owners
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:
- Watch for stains or fresh paint on ceilings below the roof
- Check the lease for roof repair responsibilities
- Check we will be able to get into the roof space
- Let us know your timetable
If the report shows work is needed, you can raise it with the seller or agent. You might ask for the work to be done before completion, or ask to adjust the price. What happens next is your decision and the seller’s, and we can’t promise any result.
Every so frequently, check the loft with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. Watch for stains, damp timbers and chinks of daylight. Photos help if you later need a roofer or another survey.
How it works
Photos are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes about one to two hours at the house you’re buying, depending on its size and how much of the roof can be seen. In a hamlet or village like Temple, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- Once your offer is accepted, you tell us the address and when you hope to exchange.
- Access to the house and the loft space is agreed in advance.
- The visit begins outside, from ground level and any safe vantage points.
- Inside, we check the roof space and look at the roof from windows.
- The report is emailed with photos and recommendations, ready to use before exchange.
Before the survey
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Check we can get to the back of the property
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
