Roof leak investigation in Chartridge
We investigate roof leaks in Chartridge and across London and the South East. We visit on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We look inside and out, at flashings, valleys, chimneys, gutters and flat roof details. You get a written report with photographs and recommendations. If water is coming in now, catch it in a bucket and keep it away from lights and sockets, and then phone 07833 053749 or send us an email to arrange a visit. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and lead flashings, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are damp walls below an overflowing gutter and staining around the chimney inside.
Roofs in small places like Chartridge often stand in the open, where storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hardest. Damp in old stone, brick or timber walls is slow to dry out, which makes finding the cause quickly worthwhile. A record with photos is useful if you need to show the damage to anyone else.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, sent by email. It explains the condition of the leaking roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Roof by roof
Parapet and box gutters
We check the linings, joints and outlets where we can see them safely.
Lead flashings
Wherever a roof meets a wall or stack, a flashing keeps rain out. We check for lead that has lifted, split or slipped.
Can I check my roof myself?
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.

Chartridge: your questions answered
Will you come out to Chartridge?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Chartridge?
Yes, Chartridge is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos.
Can every leak be traced?
We cannot promise it. Some leaks hide well, especially those that need wind-driven rain. Where the source isn’t certain, we list the likely routes in order.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling are not something we do. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we are not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
Is thermal imaging part of a leak investigation?
Where conditions suit, it can. It works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind. Wet insulation holds heat longer than dry, which can show up on the image. We always check what it shows with moisture readings.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. Photographs are taken throughout the survey, and they go into the written report.
What we can’t see
In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Carrying out the fix
- A promise to find every leak on a single visit
- Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before you book. What a survey covers and does not.
What we check
- Rooflights and dormers
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Chimney stacks
- Lead flashings
- The roof space
- Flat roof details
- Slate and tile slopes
What a roof leak investigation looks like in Chartridge
Some villages in Buckinghamshire still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in. About 2.1 miles north lies Cholesbury Manor House, a reminder of how long the area around Chartridge has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Landlords with a home close to Great Missenden station may find that tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near St John's Church, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. Take a building like Chartridge Combined School: tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.

What’s near Chartridge
Typical jobs here are in homes near Chiltern Hills Academy and The Bell pub and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Great Missenden station, roughly 3.1 miles south-west of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre (3 miles south-west) and Hawridge Court (1.5 miles north-east). Not far away are Pavis Wood and Sands Bank.
What affects the cost of roof leak investigations
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- Which survey package you book
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. You’ll know the figure before booking.
What we need to know
What helps most when you contact us:
- What’s prompted the survey
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Anything about access we should know
We confirm the exact price before booking, so you know where you stand. Roof leak investigation starts from £150, including VAT. To book, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
How it works
It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Around Chartridge, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- You get in touch with details of the leak and any photos.
- Inside, we check the damp area and the loft space above it.
- Outside, we look at every likely route in.
- We use moisture detection, and thermal imaging where it’s useful.
- Your report sets out where the water is most likely getting in, with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
