Debden Green questions

Is Debden Green in the area you cover?

We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Will you come out to Debden Green?

Yes, Debden Green is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where it applies and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

Does someone need to be in?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We will talk about access as you book.

Are you structural engineers?

No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report, and it doesn’t include calculations. We’ll recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

Roof leak investigations for homes and businesses in Debden Green

The aim is to find where the water is getting in and explain it. The report shows, with photos, where we believe the water gets in and how it travels, plus recommendations on what needs attention. Whoever does the work then has a clear starting point. The investigation finds and explains the cause, while the repair is a separate matter. If you’ve noticed water coming in around a roof light or dormer and water through the ceiling under a flat roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

For a small place like Debden Green, the inspection is the same as anywhere: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. It helps to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, along with any repairs done before. If you have photos of the water coming in, they help as well.

Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

Wind, rain and roofs in Debden Green

Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, alongside a good many post-war and newer estates. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it is detailed. With Hill Hall about 3.3 miles east, Debden Green sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years.

Anyone responsible for a site like Davenant Foundation School will know that a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside. For landlords with property near Chingford station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. The streets around a church like Parish Church of St Mary are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, leaks on older roofs often start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks.

Debden Green is about 1 mile north-east of Loughton, in Essex. Whether the building in Debden Green is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, the roof can be surveyed on a weekday or at the weekend. What we cannot see

It is a careful look at the leaking roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:

  • Leaks from plumbing, tanks or pipework rather than the roof
  • The repair itself (the investigation finds and reports the cause)
  • A structural engineer’s report

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.

  • Rooflights and dormers
  • The roof space

  • Slate and tile slopes

Roof by roof

Valleys

Leaves and moss build up in valleys and hold water back. In heavy rain, it can spill under the edges of the slates or tiles.

Slate and tile slopes

On slate roofs, corroded nails let slates slip. One slipped slate can be enough to cause a leak, especially in driving rain.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Debden Green

Lingering damp encourages mould on ceilings and walls. Once mould takes hold, it’s harder to clear. Finding the leak comes first. Older and listed buildings around Debden Green may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.

Every price we give includes VAT. Prices start from £150, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your roof before booking.

Getting in touch

Getting the details right at the start saves time. Please include:

  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • What’s prompted the survey

To book a survey, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. We’ll confirm the price before you book.

How the survey works

You do not need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and more on a big or complicated roof. Older roofs in small places like Debden Green can have low, tight loft spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it is safe.

  1. You tell us where the water shows and when it appears.
  2. We look at the stain, the ceiling and the loft above it.
  3. Outside, we look at every likely route in.
  4. We use moisture detection, and thermal imaging where it’s useful.
  5. You receive a written report with photos showing the likely source and what needs attention.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
